How Resin Jewelry Is Made: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
Have you ever wondered what goes into making a piece of handmade resin jewelry? Each piece from Island Child Creations starts as a vision — and ends as a wearable little world, complete with real dried flowers, leaves, and botanicals preserved forever in clear resin.
Step 1: Gathering and Pressing the Botanicals
It all starts in nature. Flowers, ferns, and petals are carefully selected, then pressed and dried to remove all moisture. This step can take days — but it's what keeps the blooms looking vibrant inside the resin for years to come.
Step 2: Mixing the Resin
We use a two-part epoxy resin that's measured and mixed precisely or UV resin. Temperature , or air bubbles in the mix, can affect the final clarity. This is where the chemistry meets the craft.
Step 3: Pouring and Placing the Florals
A thin base layer of resin is poured into the mold or frame and left to partially cure. Then, the pressed botanicals are carefully placed before a final layer of resin seals everything in.
Step 4: Curing
The molds rest for 24–48 hours while the resin fully hardens. UV takes under 30 minutes. Rushing this step risks a tacky or cloudy finish, so patience is everything.
Step 5: Demolding, Sanding & Finishing
Once cured, the pieces are carefully removed from their molds, edges are sanded smooth, and each piece is polished to a glass-like clarity. Hardware like earring posts or hooks are then attached by hand.
The Result: Wearable Nature
Every piece is one-of-a-kind. Because real botanicals vary in shape, color, and texture, no two earrings or pendants are exactly alike — and that's exactly the point.
